THE GEORGE HOTEL, STAMFORD

Another visitor tells of his ghostly encounter...

"I used to work at The George Hotel in Stamford. When I first started working there, I got the usual stories about ghosts and strange goings on and being a night porter, it was indeed a creepy place to work. Anyway, I laughed off a lot of the stories as just a bit of fun, until one night when I was doing my rounds, checking for shoes to be cleaned.

Room 20 was always a spooky room and there had been many sightings of a lady in there. I was walking up to the room when all of a sudden I felt as if someone was behind me. As I looked around I saw a figure just walking up the stairs behind me. I thought it was a guest so I said "Good Evening" but she ignored me. She walked straight past me and went right through the door of room 20!

There was also another incident in the Business Centre at around midnight when I was doing my security check. I entered the Business Centre, checked around, turned the lights off and locked up. I went around doing my other checks but when I walked back past the centre I noticed that the lights were back on so I went to check that the doors were still locked. As I went to put the key in the lock, a figure rushed past the door and the lights went out. I checked with my colleague but he was still in the hotel and when we checked the centre there was no way that anybody could have been in there."
